In my field of microprocessor design*, there is a large component of the testing which is automated. We can generate a pseudo-random test sequence & compare the observed results to the predictions of a trusted model.

I was wondering about the application of similar techniques to game testing...for instance in the sort of seam testing or object placement verification that I've read about here. Perhaps you can discuss on your podcast at some point.

More specifically, we're Software Design/Development Engineers in Test. This is to point out the fact we're not just testing, we're engineering the way the game is tested. And there's no way to do that in a strictly reactive capacity.

LimitBreaker: We actually don't use either term @ MGS, we refer to our function as simply "Test."

As testers, you should know that you primarily perform a QC (Quality Control) function, not a QA (Quality Assurance) function - the former is predominantly reactive, while the latter is proactive (more process oriented). Inspection/Testing vs. Auditing.

Why so many places confuse QC and QA, I don't know, but it's unfortunate that James Portnow's article doesn't use the correct terms.

You guys do a really great show. Nice to see you weren't all stiff and "corporate" if you catch my drift. You were funny and gave a load of interesting insight into how things roll where you work.

The only thing I didn't like was finding out this wont be a weekly thing :(

Keep the podcasts coming, I'll be listening for sure.
