No show this week

Being Thanksgiving and all, we won’t have a show this week. Go eat some Turkey and take a nap. We’ll be back shortly with our usual level of stupidity. Especially if Justin is on.

I too miss the podcast this week for my commute. You don’t have one this week, MN doesn’t have one, Insomniac did a video podcast (not too god on my commute).

As for not celebrating Thanksgiving, if you look around, I think you’ll find that we Americans (US) take much less time off of work compared to people almost anywhere else. Please do not begrudge us our Thanksgiving.

Hey, just an aside, but where did Jaynoon get his GTA-style track top for his avatar? Clothes we haven’t seen yet? Mine! Mine!

Hey guys, hope you all had a good holiday. Over my thanksgiving holiday I went out and purchased Scene it? Box office smash! and am pleased to say that my wife, kids and I all enjoy it but have a slight critique about it which leads me to some questions for you guys.

Now we have a typical living room setup with a 32″ SD tv in the room with our couch being roughly 8 ft from the screen. The issue we notice is that some of the puzzle categories don’t take advantage of the screen and are smaller in screen area than they could be, in these cases the on-screen text is borderline illegible, most notably on the crossword puzzle type and for some of the game menus also. So this leads me into some questions I have about the testing of games in general.

Does the testing procedure take into account the readability of on-screen elements when players are 6, 10, or even 15 feet away from the screen?

Does testing a game also entail playing the game on a bunch of different sizes of displays from small 13″ sd tv’s to large displays or even a projected displays? Or is there even a standard prodcedure for this?

Does the publisher of a game have input into the design or layout of a game or is that handled only on the developer side of things? For example, could Microsoft tell a developer to change something in a game before they would publish it.

OK that’s all from me for now guys. I am looking forward to the next show.
