For Show 074 we thought it would be a good idea to ring in 2012 by interviewing someone who is working on the latest Windows 8 gaming experiences. The interview is with SDET Lead, Cesar Garcia, in the Connected Experiences Team in Microsoft Studios. In the interview we talk about Windows 8 and games for it that will play on desktops, laptops, and tablets. We also discuss a bit about cross-device play and achievements across devices. The guys also discuss their current game play lists as well as some new XBLA titles, Game Add-Ons, Games on Demand games and Demos that have just recently been released.

Games and topics discussed this episode:

  • Dark Souls
  • Shuffle Party
  • Sonic Generations
  • Lord of the Rings: War in the North

Great show guys! I didn’t score a Fusion Genesis code :( – darn time zones! But its great that you have the bandwidth for cool giveaways, etc!
QUESTION: I read an interview with Hideo Kojima the other day, where he claimed that in the current gaming climate, the opportunity for japanese designers to experiment with anything other than triple A FPS type games is too risky, and that the industry is going to suffer as a result. As a listener since the beginning I get a sense that you guys also appreciate the sometimes quirky game design style from Japan. Do you think that the massive demand from the great unwashed masses for FPS games is going to squash all other genres? I played both Blur and Blood Stone these holidays; awesome games by Bizarre Creations, but they have been shutdown now, simply because they could not compete with other Warfare games set in a modern setting ;)
    DISCUSS!!! :)

I enjoyed the interview. In the last few shows, your team has really matured and is producing a much higher quality podcast.

    :-)

Missed one thing, though. I understand why Cesar & Juan have to dance around the details of Windows 8… it hadn’t been released and much hasn’t been announced. But, when someone mentions having worked on the dash for the original X-box and also on the 360 launch, it would be appropriate to go into more details as there are far fewer secrets. At least to say what specifically someone worked on, etc.

I have to agree with Bob, the podcast is really growinb and has really matured over the last couple of years.

Great to hear that there is another spoilershow coming up :) , just please don’t spoil Dark Souls, thanks to all the talking on the podcast from Chris about this game I have decided to try it. I hope to get the game this friday so fingers crossed and controllers wrapped in cushions to prevent them from damage when I frustratingly throw them :P .

Thanks btw for Fusion: Genesis, I am having a blast with that game, so much fun, reminded me first a bit of the Wing Commander game on XBLA but this is so much more and so much better, I am loving it, one of my favorite XBLA games.

Cant wait to hear the game of the year picks :) ..

I second Joris’s request! I too have been challenged by Chris’s iron resolve, and I am also gonna play DS… so Chris- no spoilars!!! :)
Otherwise, REALLY looking forwards to the GOTY and spolier show!

I’d prefer that you list the games that you have spoilers for. Most posts now have a list of games that are discussed…so you are certainly able to keep track & do it.
